Interiors
Leslie and Jay Mashburn were expecting twins when they decided to relocate from Savannah to Albany to live closer to family. The ambitious young couple purchased a foreclosure in Callaway Lakes in serious need of updating, with plans to transform it into a comfortable and welcoming home for their new family. Today, following guidance from Laura Killebrew, owner of interior design firm Lali Lane, the family is perfectly happy in their renovated home.
In the Garden
For those who cherish a garden, a blank yard becomes an empty canvas. For architect Roman L. Stankus, his corner lot in Richland proved an exciting challenge when he purchased the property in 2015. And it’s a colorful project he continues to expand. Stankus first initiated a garden design that would break up the landscape into what he calls “rooms,” carving up the expanse of property for individual enjoyment spaces. Each room is a showcase for plants Stankus finds interesting.
Travel
Known as the “Island of Flowers,” Martinique lies between St. Lucia and Dominica and is a semi-autonomous department of France, with a population that speaks both French and Creole. Surprisingly unspoiled, the island is known for pristine beaches with gin-clear waters. The birthplace of Napoleon’s Empress Josephine, Martinique has a fascinating, colonial history still preserved in its Great Houses and monuments.
